Persona5: The Phantom X Beginner Guide
Updated 2026-06-03
Jumping into Persona5: The Phantom X for the first time? This beginner guide covers everything you need to know in the first 10 hours — from choosing your starter Persona to clearing your first palace without wasting resources.
Pick Your Starter Wisely
You get to choose a starting Persona early on. Each one leans into a different playstyle:
| Persona | Arcana | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
| Arsène (Joker's default) | Fool | Balanced, all-rounder |
| Carmen | Lovers | Fire magic, high single-target |
| Captain Kidd | Chariot | Physical, crit-focused |
| Zorro | Magician | Wind magic, support |
I personally recommend Captain Kidd for beginners — physical attacks conserve SP, and crits chain into One Mores (extra turns). That extra turn economy is what wins fights in this game.
Do Not Skip the Tutorial Palaces
The first two palaces are basically extended tutorials. They teach you stealth, ambush mechanics, and baton pass. Rushing through them means you will hit a wall around Palace 3 when the difficulty spikes. Take your time, read the tutorial pop-ups, and experiment with different party compositions.
Resource Management 101
Three resources matter most: SP (skill points), stamina (for farming), and Crystals (gacha currency). Never waste SP on random encounters — use physical attacks or gun skills instead. Stamina should go into event stages first, then Persona fusion material farming. Crystals are for limited banners only, never the standard pool.
FAQ
- What should I spend my first 100 pulls on?
- The limited banner. Standard banner characters are always available; limited units may not return for months.
- Is the battle pass worth it for beginners?
- Yes. The premium pass gives you a massive headstart on resources and a guaranteed 5-star selector at level 50.
- Can I change my starter Persona later?
- Yes. You can fuse and acquire new Personas throughout the game. Your starter choice is not permanent.
